Devine Color became a chapter in the acquisition of Valspar Paint and Devine Color by Sherwin-Williams in 2018. But not the end of the story. One that began in the backseat of a black Impala, during sunrise and sunset commutes to her grandparents' house in Puerto Rico, where a young girl watched the light dance on waves, sky, and flowers through chrome-trimmed windows. That girl was Gretchen Schauffler, who would later turn those memories into her life's work.

What she saw back then became her color baggage—emotional, visual, unforgettable.

That baggage followed her to the Pacific Northwest, where the skies were quieter and the greens deeper. With time, she saw that shadows held just as much truth as light. She created art that moved people. And from that art, she distilled paint—seven hues at a time, like notes in a melody—to help people make their homes feel like their truest selves.

Devine Color was born.

It went on like yogurt, looked like chiffon, and changed an industry. It turned walls into mirrors of emotion and identity. And it found its way into homes everywhere. Nine years later, Devine was acquired, but love like that doesn't fade. It evolves.
